Mandy Meyer

Johan,

I read that Mandy Meyer has been added to the new band project called "Unisonic" led by singer Michael Kiske (Place Vendrome/Helloween fame). I haven't really followed Mandy's career since his work on Astra, however it is nice to see his name again on a higher profile project.

I was curious whether you and Mandy ever considered working together after the Astra recordings or if you ever run into him in your music circles? I read that Geffen originally brought Mandy to the band's attention for the Astra recordings, however I enjoyed his work on the album even though it "felt" different at the time compared to Steve's work on the debut and Alpha.

KC Red-40th Anniversary

I received my copy of the Red 40th Anniversary CD/DVD set yesterday and it is awesome. Fans will appreciate the entire package including four live songs on the DVD, 1. Larks' Tongues in Aspic: Part II, 2. Lament, 3. The Night Watch, and 4. Starless, and also a couple of on stage and backstage photos of John from the last Central Park concert. The video is from a performance before Starless was recorded in the studio for Red, as David Cross is on stage and the Starless lyrics were not yet complete. The Night Watch is done with a psychedelic effect on the video which I prefer was not used as this is the only live video of this amazing song and the effect is distracting to me. Otherwise, the videos and all the audio selections, including an instrumental version of Fallen Angel, are spectacular. Dennis

Cleaning House

To all.....first, a thank you to all of you who have placed bids in our phone call auction or have made a donation to this website. We are constantly working to make your website experience a pleasant one. Having said that, I must remind some of you that this website also serves as the Internet "home" of John Wetton. Anyone from a casual fan to someone wishing to book John for a gig can (and do) visit here. So you can imagine why we want to "reboot" the guestbook, so to speak, and refocus the discussions. One step is to eliminate the "random" threads. While they originally served as a place to discuss other music, some have since disintegrated into smut talk about the musicians....to put it bluntly! Other "random" discussions have become so personal that they really have no place here. I apologize if any of you feel we're taking away some of your freedom for discussions, but we pay for the guestbook space you use! We provide for PMs (personal messages) between fans, so please use that option to share details of your personal life, your other concerts, etc. If you're writing about John (in a respectable manner) then your post is welcome. If it's not about John, then please think twice about posting. If any of you have any questions about a post or its content, you can always e-mail me for an opinion.

Thank you.

Kinda Sappy

Just out of curiosity, What sappy music do you remember growing up?
I found that some songs from the late 60's were "happy music" to me, such as "Good Morning Starshine" ~ though I could do without the "glibby glop" stuff. "Downtown" was another, and The Mamas and The Papas were there too.
The Stylistics I adored!
John, who did you listen too?
Everyone else? (the timeline doesn't matter, just the songs!)

Question for Johan - about fans on front row

I've arrived home from Bratislava! A great concert by Yes (not much great the sound), I could even meet them after the concert....but that's another story, I won't write the review here - not the right forum!
I'd like to ask Johan how much is important eye-contact between the people you can see from the stage and them, looking at you. I'll explain what happened to me.
I was on front row, nearly in front of Steve Howe. I was clapping to him, there for him, to listen to him playing. Looking at his hands, at his fingers. And into his eyes. And at some point he realized, he saw me clapping for him and he looked at me and had an expression like "thank you". I went on, he made and expression as to say "I'm flattered". No joking. It wasn't a product of my imagination. I asked my friend who was next to me, he agreed, Steve realized about me! And I was so happy!
Tell me Johan please, how does this apply to you? I mean: do you realize about some fans who are there for you and not for the whole band? Can you feel it? Has it anything to do with eye-contact (as I think) or is it a "feeling"? Thank you!

Bob Marlette Interview

Here's a recent interview of Bob Marlette by Musician1.com. As many of you know, Bob Marlette co-wrote a few songs with John Wetton on Voice Mail and Arkangel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qytfdo01YEI

THE ANNOUNCEMENT

"Hello, this is John...."

How would you like to pick up the phone and hear those words? It could happen!

We are going to make the holiday season merrier for one lucky John Wetton fan by auctioning off a phone call from John. Get the scoop on the new Asia album, discuss your favorite song lyrics, ask about his holiday shopping....anything! It's your call, literally!

John has graciously agreed to this truly "grand" prize because inflation has hit our website. Costs are up, especially for the guestbook, but we certainly don't want to cut back on any of the services provided to John's fans. So we've decided to offer up an auction every few months to help cover the costs. There will be rare memorabilia, more phone calls, and who knows what else we'll come up with!

We hope you will help by joining the fun of the auction. We'll begin to accept bids at 8AM on Monday, November 2nd, with the final bids accepted by 11PM on Monday, November 30th. All times are US Eastern. The call will be made during the second week of December, with the exact date and time to be decided between John and the winner.

To take part in the auction, e-mail your name and your bid to bakerloo2@aol.com. We will start the bidding at $150.00. I will update the bids on November 6th, 13th, 20th and 29th, posting the highest bid at that time on the "news" page of the website, the guestbook, and via the JW IINFOLeTTeR. All bid updates will be anonymous. Only the name of the winner will be announced. (NOTE: any bid submitted before the official start of the auction will be eliminated) The winning bid must be paid in full (via PayPal, US money order, or international money order) by December 12th.

Good luck to all, and thank you very much for helping to keep the Official John Wetton Website in operation!
