Reply with quote | #1 | I was out walking in Liverpool (I know--the irony is not lost on this B-fan
of forty-odd years) looking for the DVD "Cars" for the Kleiner Graf von Actimel (Dylan)--just after rehearsal in the fair Merseyside murky dark,
when I saw the new Beatles / G.Martin / Cirque du Soleil CD 'Love"for sale in the same store . Now I know the Beatles music (well, I THOUGHT I did!),and I've seen CdS twice, and it's just about blown my head off both times . The marriage prospect is mouth-watering to say the least,so next time I am in the US,I'm off to Vegas again, but I know that already.
I have to tell you I was not prepared for the job that George and his son Giles have done on this CD. I've written with the lovely Ringo ( Real World),so I'm acquainted with the magic dust attached to the fab Four, and I had the fantastic opportunity and privilege of working with George M at his AIR London studios many times in the early '70s ,so I know his ears(I have a great story about that, which will be shared at a later date), but the old boy has excelled himself this time. If you loved the Beatles before,I promise when you hear this you will want to sleep with them. It is GORGEOUS, utterly, utterly, butterly GORGEOUS.

Thanks for the great stocking-stuffer idea, JW -- not "Cars," I already wrapped that, but the Beatles thing. For his 39th b-day this past September, I bought my ex-hubby (and dear friend) two tix to the "Love" CdS show, and sent him off to Vegas. He's a huge Beatles fan, and I figured he should kick-off the last year of his 30's with something amazing. Of the "Love" CdS show and the music, he said it was "the most beautiful thing I've ever experienced..." And he's actually experienced a lot. I could only afford the cheap nose-bleeder seats ("cheap" used loosely here), but he said there was NO bad seat in the house, the experience was intense and gorgeous from every vantage, and that he and his date had CdS performers flying into the venue from just above their shoulders. Sounds kewl to me. So, buying him the CD you speak of sounds like an excellent idea....! __________________ + Wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving. Reply with quote | #3 | This thread peaked my interest. I did not know that CdS had done this project. So, I searched the net a bit and thought I would share with you an interview I found with Sir George and Giles about the project. It's too short though, I could read about this stuff for days! Enjoy everyone. http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1562172_4_0_,00.html __________________ "Creamed up kitten screaming for her next injection. Dead dog in the driveway protein for infection."

I love THE BEATLES too! My band "Random" (now it's gone... ) had a repertoire that was made for 3/4 of Beatles songs... the rest were our songs and some rock classics. You can understand how poor our songs seemed compared to the fab 4 masterpieces... Anyway... I don't have the CD yet but it will be one of my Christmas presents! __________________ cigarettes, ice cream, figurines of the Virgin Mary... |

Reply with quote | #5 | As far as I can guage , Amie, the critics fall into two camps-- predictably the LOVES and the hates, but then critics are rarely fans, and cannot be after the same excitement,or 'peak' that we are, I think your ex- would be blown away ( ahem,in the nicest possible way) by this gesture. Ironically,I did the same thing ,ie popping 'Love' into the Xmas 'Cars' package. I think it's a must for all Beatles fans. Some of the extras are
lovely, and some are hilarious ( Blue Meanies doing in the stereo what the CdS performers do in the auditorium). John Lennon breathing in'Because' (I thought I'd died and gone when the disc opened with that,
a capella,on headphones) . Incidentally,on the way back from iCon Japanese tour a week or so ago--a 12 hour night flight-- John Mitchell and I emerged groggily from the plane at Heathrow . As we awaited our luggage at the carousel,John said to me "I know it's an animation about cars, but at the end,I actually welled up". "Yeah",I concurred, "ridiculous---I blubbed' . And I thought I was the only one. |

I bought the CD/DVD edition and the 5.1 surround mix sounds incredible. It's a feast for the ears, my friends. I love what they did with the original (and sometimes demo) tapes. This proves that in the right hands re-mixing can produce wonderful results. Play it loud!! Regards, Jos |

Reply with quote | #7 | I fondly recall JWs cover of the Fab Four's Ticket to Ride at the Underworld London in 2003. How about a CD of Beatles songs performed in the JW (or W/D) style....? What 12 Beatles tracks would you most like to hear JW peform? |

Since we are also talking about cartoons and animation here on this thread too, I thought I would throw out my recomendation for some good children and adult animated entertainment. I liked Cars, but I really enjoyed Curious George a lot! It has a good storyline that gives the background to how CG and the Man in the Yellow Suit "find" each other. And it sports an excellent soundtrack by Jack Johnson. Check it out here: http://www.curiousgeorgemovie.com/ __________________ "I believe I can change my world."

'Totally agree, Johan -- but since I'm no performer, I needn't be as classy as you were. Critics, shmitics. They don't change minds these days, they merely provide vapid, ornery bytes of info best reserved for suburban cocktail parties. Word of mouth rules these days, IMHO...and the "LOVES" of "Love" seem to be winning. I can't wait to hear the CD. Flay me, but I've never been a Beatles fan. I respect them, but don't own anything by them. It will be interesting to hear what the Martins have done (when I, ahem, "borrow" the CD from my ex.). So sweet about you, Mr. Mitchell, and your emotional reaction to a Pixar film. I get misty at the end of Shrek II. The cat's thigh-high boots, you see...they're quite moving. By chance could your deep emotional response to "Cars" have ANYTHING to do with the talking, female, 2002 911 Porsche Carrera with 320 horses under her sparkling baby blue hood that can both drive and park herself? The thought of that existing (and in my driveway) makes me well up....but I've not seen the movie yet...surely there could be additional emotional factors. ta. __________________ + Wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving. Reply with quote | #10 | Amie,if you've never been into the Beatles, then now is the time to lose your virginity--and don't wait till Christmas! sale price here is £9.97 ($20),and it's well-spent. I HATE to dwell on pedantry,as you well know , but Ms Porsche's horses are in her rear, but she does have a tiny amount of space between her headlights. Decolletage,I think that's called.
Who is the voice of the 911? Is it Katey Segal? Steven Segal?

Oops, silly me, Porsche-mon. 320 Horses in one's arse must be a bit uncomfortable. Hm. 'Never did pay much attention to where the engine goes as long as it just goes. I do usually notice where & how the decolletage goes, though. When that's crooked, nothing else looks quite right. Thanks for the correction...I'll remember that when I shop (seriously) for my first 911. You know, when the kids are 40. Voice of Sally is Bonnie Hunt. Very funny lady, 'just love her. I may lose my Beatles virginity this very weekend, we'll see. Shhh. A lady should be discreet about these things. ta. __________________ + Wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving. Hey John, I am a huge Beatle fan. I learned to play about 70% of their songs on the guitar, I know they're not that hard. I think having that knowledge of the Beatles background made me really appreciate what ASIA threw on the table. I did put my own spin on one of the tracks, Mother Natures Son. John Denver I thought did the track even better than the one McCartney penned, no disrespect to the great Sir Paul who wrote the song, but the lyrics I think hit Denver, he remade the track but he increased the tempo. The version I do..., I use the Denver tempo version of it, but I finger pick it with a thumb-pick. Denver's version is more of a strum. __________________ Author of the forthcoming book, "They Had Forgotten All The Soldiers". |
