Reply with quote | #2 | Black Betty from Ram Jam! Ha! Are you familiar with that song?
I used to have a CD single of that song back in high school. It actually had a remix of that song on the single too. PC will be happy to know that I purchased that CD single at his brother's record store in Tulsa! __________________ "I believe I can change my world."

HB - I just got the new Mark Knopfler CD - "Kill to Get Crimson", and I really like it. It is very mellow tho' - the word that comes to mind is "contemplative". My favorite track on it is "Madame Geneva", but the whole thing is a solid piece of work. I am still kind of soaking it in, but I definitely recommend it. Reply with quote | #4 | Modern: Thanks man, good idea. Yes I really like that song, but I haven't heard it in a long time. good call :thumbs up: Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever heard any of their stuff besides that song, so if the rest of the album is anything like it I am due for a treat.
Goddess: Hey babe... good to see you. Yes, school is crazy right now... trying to take some MD AND PhD classes this semester, and it has had me at wits end at times lately. Not to mention my P.I. wants me to present at the Association of Surgical Technologists conference this year, and I have only 10 weeks to submit my abstact and my experiments are not cooporating! Haha... good thing I love what I do Hope all is well in the burbs.... yes I like Mark Knofler, so I will check that one out too.
Btw.. this is a funny one. I just got Kanye West's new album (I don't care for him personally.. I think it is irresponsible about how he brags about dropping out of school, and also all the dumb, ignorant things he says) but I think he is OK musically and he is from my hometown so.... anyway, on one of the tracks on his new album, he heavily samples Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemange!!" LOL... too funny |

Hmm...A man who heavily samples with the Dan....Innnnnnnteresting. Get along, Kid Charlemagne...(NTTAWWT)
Now that the kids are back at my school, I'll have to hear what they're listening to. I shocked a girl yesterday by telling her, "Oh, I like that song Miss Murder by AFI." She seemed quite irritated that an old lady (36) was listening to her music.

Reply with quote | #7 | MLmom: The new Pumpkins album "Zeitgeist" is pretty decent.. it's a throw back to more of the old "Siamese Dream" sound of crunchy distortion and straight ahead rock. The new White Stripes "Icky Thump" is good too. Also, I'm a big fan of Buckethead, if you like severe shredding and mind bending rock guitar work. He was also in a side-project called Praxis (revolving line-up of him, Bill Laswell, Bernie Worell, Les Claypool, and Brain) that is very, very good if you can find any of that stuff. Also, I'm sure I will get some funny looks for this one, but I've been enjoying all the remixes out right now of Rhianne's "Umbrella." Sure it might be a bit of a goofy song, but I think it is one of the more melodically sound hooks I've heard in awhile.
Fritzie: Hmm... AC/DC "It's a Long Way to the Top if you Wanna Rock'n Roll" any other suggestions?
As far as what I've been getting into lately more along the classic rocks lines:
Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac (such as the 1st eponymously titled release they put out, and also Live in Chicago Blues Sessions, etc.) Being from Chicago, the blues are very important to me, and they sound awesome! Completely different than their later stuff that most people are familiar with (such as the 2nd self-titled album they released).
Also Zappa (Hots Rats, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, You Can't Do That Onstage II). I'm a sucker for Frank's noodling guitar work... really, really creative and imaginative stuff, some of it is too esoteric for me, but when he is firing on all cylinders it really blows my mind. Also been listening to Stevie Wonder "Innervisions" a lot. I'm basically into anything Stevie and could well be in the choir of the Church of Stevie.
Also, Eddie Hazel's only solo album "Games, Dames, and Guitar Thangs" is really good too.
And any Little Feat, even Lowell George solo albums (Had no idea that Missy Elliott's "Can't Stand the Rain" was a sample of Lowell George's solo work until I got the album... actually might not even be his song originally, but he does a nice version of it). |

If I could find the box with Live Inside Job - Don Hensley on DVD...I'd put it on. It's my "feel good" music of the year. U2 Go Home - Live From Slaine Castle didn't get buried in the box, so I think it's the next music up. The acoustics in the new house are worth the hell of moving! __________________ And if I should light a candle... |

Cool, I'll check out that U2 set (not the hugest fan, but Joshua Tree still gets my nod as one of the greatest albums of all time). Even their more recent stuff... not exactly my tastes for listen to the whole album straight through, but they still manage to turn out 1 or 2 timeless tracks on each offering (at least until they started making iPod commercials that is.. heh)
I hear you on the sound frosting the cake though... my home stereo system is my computer, and I was fortunate enough to have my advisor give me a set of desktops recently w/ a kick-ass subwoofer attached... MIND = BLOWN w00t! |

Reply with quote | #14 | Rhino... Over the years it has become a meeting place for like-minded individuals who enjoy life. Sure John is the "Main" subject. But moreso we make friendships here. And always here to help!
