HB, I can't believe I am suggesting this...I have never been a big Scorpions fan - I always thought that Klaus Meine had a very shrill voice (kind of like a German Axl Rose) - but I like the singles I have heard from the new album.  Meine's voice has really matured, and has a really nice tone to it now - much richer.  If you are still looking for suggestions, it may be worth checking out...

In the last 2 months I was totally kept by The Raspberries (an incredible mix between Beatles, Beach Boys and The Who).
I'd suggest their reunion (great period for this, isn't it?) live album: Live at the sunset strip: 2 CD + DVD.
Here my 2 little kids singing "I wanna be with you":

the incredible thing is that the Raspberries' drummer, Jim Bonfanti, saw this and commented very nicely... ah! The power of Internet!!!

Francesco,

Yup, a considerate Cleveland boy.  Makes me proud.  I spent quite a few summers with the Raspberries, then with Mr. Carmen's solo stuff. I still have those vinyls somewhere.  "I Can Remember" is still my favorite by the band....although it could just as easily been a solo tune.

I think The Raspberries are a great band indeed!
I really don't know how I didn't hear anything about them until 2007  (I discovered them really by chance...). I knew Eric Carmen for a couple of hits in the 80s but I wasn't impressed at all.
But the 70s stuff of this band is AWESOME!
Songs like "Go all the way", "I wanna be with you", "I saw the light" (my favourite), "Tonight", "I reach for the light", "Overnight sensation" and many others, are masterpieces of pop-rock!
I also heard Bruce Springsteen is a hard-die fan of them...
I'd like to see them live, sometime... but I'm sure they'll never come to Italy (here nobody knows them!)

Francesco,

The Raspberries were HUGE in Cleveland, Ohio (my hometown), as is Eric Carmen, who still lives in a posh 'hood there.  You're right, his 80's stuff was awful...he probably needed tuition money for a child or something, hence the crapola he released. I was very young when the Raspberries hit, but I had an aunt who was a rabid fan and "tuned me in."

If you DON't have it any solo Eric stuff yet, definitely get his first solo effort, released in 1975 or so....simply called "Eric Carmen."  My aunt bought it for my big brother.  'Not sure he ever heard it. Fnah. The first song, "Sunrise" will tell you what you need to know from the first note.  Great album. "All By Myself" (AKA: "the Rachmaninov incident") is also a great song that hit internationally, and has previously been discussed here on the GB by Johan.

Although Shaun Cassidy later defiled a song from the effort (and hat a hit single despite himself and his satin shorts), I've since forgiven Mr. Carmen for that.

all IMHHHHHO, of course.

Full points to Eric for imagination and mystique in the album title department.

I met him years back, he reminded me of Chris Kattan of SNL fame, the monkey boy and one half of the dancing idiots w/ Will Ferrell. Nice guy, his 80's stuff was released on Geffen if I recall and was consistent with what everyone's prior opinions.

Raspberries stuff was always great.
