Your musings on the difference do make sense, April - Mr W is very good at finding the "mot juste", so would not be surprised if that was the case with selection of the title ...

Hey, juste a mot! You can rest assured that a bit of love and care goes into your iCon material before it plops onto your welcome mat.  I wasn't aware of Swede's  album title before this live DVD came into play---I'm not a magpie, mags . To get a title which suggests that it was recorded in a church in the City of London, you may think we have all the necessary ingredients with the pluralised 'Urban Psalms'. BUT, if you take our evening's work as a collective,it becomes a singular, so drop the 's',and you have (2x5)10 letters, a numerological, and symmetrical '1'. It gets better: the acronym is 'UP'.

Interestingly, 'psalm' comes from the Greek 'psalmoi,' which literally means 'twangings' (specific to harp strings). The Hebrew title of the biblical book is not Psalms, but Tehillim, which means 'praises.' Of course the generally accepted definition of 'psalm' has shifted toward the Hebrew ... a definition for which I find a great match with that wonderful concert in London and the DVD we breathlessly await!

As always, Johan, your work is carefully and thoughtfully done from start to finish.  Great acronym (and movie, btw).  Thanks for the insight.

- Exactly my point, Johan .
- Gotta put my hands up to this one - you certainly would NEVER have been aware of Suede / Swede / Turnip's album title before the DVD as it was actually an album by The Verve - not quite sure where I pulled the former from ....  ... And rest assured no pica pica tendency implied!
- Ditto ref the insight ... Works for me !

I suggest there is some confusion here over "Urban Hymns" (plural) which was actually a huge selling album for the band, The Verve in 1997 (their biggest to date) and NOT - Suede. It contained the two tracks 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' & 'The Drugs Don't Work' which are possibly the 2 best known Verve tracks. The album achieved multi-platinum status all over the World including the States. In fact as far as I know, the only connection between Suede & The Verve was that Suede's former guitarist Bernard Butler was once asked to join The Verve at one point but declined. (He latterly produced 4 tracks on Duffy's 'Rockferry' album if anyone's interested!) However, there is no reference on Suede ever having released a title with the singular "Urban Hymn" moniker from my research, but I could be wrong. Let's get these things right fellas - that's what the discussion's all about!! Oh yeah, what's with the acronyms - UH? PS Mags45 - never trust a market trader, we used to have an East End barrow-boy for a manager... GD

Thanks for the info, Geoff!  The CD I saw in the market was the genuine article (groupwise, anyhow) - by The Verve - it was my short term memory that was faulty (less than 24 hours ... sad ...) .  Possibly got 'em muddled as they were around at a similar time.

To all...we're pleased to announce that iCon fans fortunate enough to be in attendance at last February's fabulous St. Mary-le-Bow concert will receive their copies of the "Urban Psalm" DVD in late October/early November. The DVD promises to capture the full magic of the event, which also featured the immense talents of Dave Kilminster, Pete Riley, Hugh McDowell and Anne-Marie Helder. Fans were thrilled by the incredible setlist which included iCon favorites such as "Rubicon" and "To Catch a Thief,"  heritage tunes from both Wetton and Downes, plus rarely performed Asia tracks including "Countdown to Zero," "Days Like These," and "My Own Time."
Please note that there will be no commercial release of this DVD until 2010, but do keep an eye on this website for future details of how you may purchase a strictly limited edition "Urban Psalm" DVD signed by John and Geoff.

As far as I understand you can order through the websites of John and Geoff sooner?

The people that attended the Zoetermeer show should also get a copy, because that was the rehearsal for the London show ;-)
(ok, I just don't want to have to wait longer to finally see the show)

Thanks for clearing that up.

Since we weren't able to order iCon 3 until it was released "officially", I assumed it would be the same situation with the DVD. I'm glad to hear we won't have to wait until then!
