I believe Prince (or the artist formally known as or that symbol named dude, or whatever his name is / was / going to be) started this trend.   Remember, I Would Die 4 U and Nothing Compares 2 U?

"I would die 4U" was from "Purple Rain" in 1984.  "OU812" was in 1988 IIRC. "Nothing compares 2U" was out about the same time as the latter.

Blame Prince.

Does everyone text with all these abreviations and things? Cause y'know, people laugh at me because I never use them; in fact if I spell something wrong in a text the receiver(?) will get a text apologising for the mistake. Am I like, some sort of minority? AGAIN? I hate 'text talk' or whatever it is. And another thing: why is it that just about every celebrity on the television and beyond is talking about this twittering thingy? I don't understand what it is! And I don't want to; but by the same token I do because I get frustrated when everyone says things that I don't understand. And what does LMFAO mean for flip?!  I don't know...

[sorry about the naff spelling everyone]

Cleetocat, is your daughter aware of what and how many posts are posted on her thread?  Content aside, she should receive extra credit, don't you guys agree?
