Reply with quote | #46 | It's actually too early even for me (or any of us,for that matter) to know what it is, but the working title we've been tossing off is one word. And it doesn't begin with 'A'. |

Perhaps it's a word that start with "Ph" since we had Phoenix. So nerkoe that would be "Phrock" And I am excited to hear about this website opportunity!

I wonder if folks use the word in a manner of some difference? I think of it as intense or intricate play of whatever the instrument. For instance, Time Again...seems like the intro would fall into that description. But, I wanted to ask what it means to you, or correct my understanding? |

I hope I'm not repeating myself because I know I have mentioned it before somewhere, but Roger Dean came and gave a lecture at my old college once. An old girlfirend of mine (and fellow student) was also a big fan of his and actually tracked him down to his little cottage out in the wilds somewhere. Young Hillary was very likeable and could instantly be forgiven anything and so it came as no surprise when she told me that not only was she met warmly when she knocked on his front door - but she had then persuaded him to come and give a lecture on architecture and design at our college.
He duly did this a few months later (late 80s sometime) and spoke for an hour or so on the work he and Martyn Dean had been doing in the architectural arena and of course about his art work (with slides). A very pleasant, inspired and interesting dude he was, whose views on architecture chimed with my own. I distinctly remember the uncomfortable looks on the faces of some of the lecturers as Roger destroyed one architectural sacred cow after another with his humane assessment of everything that was wrong with the modern movement of Le Corbusier and Mies Van Der Rohe etc. I love his work and think it is as relevant today as it ever was - for those of us who want to be transported to somewhere a little fantastical. I really look forward to whatever he produces for the new ASIA album as I do the music contained therein...

i don't have access to my Then & Now sleeve...but as Dean's artwork was woven into the cover...i do not think he actually designed that sleeve...anyone to check me on that? The horse is not his? i could be off on this...just a recollection... |

Reply with quote | #57 | It wasn't Roger's design, and I don't think he's very impressed with it. 'Jam' to me is unprepared noodling. |

From my experience, musicians use the term jam to mean improvisation, but non-musicians often use it to describe when a band is really playing on fire (they're really jamming!). For that latter definition I agree of your assessment for the Time Again intro... for the former (and probably Johan's perspective), not at all
